English Language  Advisory Committee

The main role of the English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) is to advise the principal and staff in the following areas:

  • Development and implementation of the Master Plan
  • Development and implementation of the school needs assessment
  • Assist the administration of the school’s language census
  • Assist in developing parent awareness of the importance of school attendance

ELAC’s goals include:

1.      Increase parent participation and communication with school/teachers:

  • Discussion of academic standings
  • Training parents to use SnapGrades
  • Increasing parent participation in monthly meetings

2.      Improve school climate through culturally significant events, such as:

  • Dia de los Muertos event
  • Winter celebration
  • Cinco de Mayo celebration

3.      Improve high school graduation and higher education matriculation:

  • Communicating expectations of higher education
  • Fundraising campaign to support ELAC
  • Supporting graduating LOHS ELL students financially through ELAC Scholarship
